Iggy Azalea Goes In On Bhad Bhabie After Apparent Run In At Fashion Nova Party

Iggy Azalea Goes In On Bhad Bhabie After Apparent Run In At Fashion Nova Party
Iggy Azalea poses in the press room during the iHeartRadio Music Festival at T-Mobile Arena on September 21, 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Iggy Azalea and Bhad Bhabie have been taking shots at each other online, but it appears they finally met face to face. Just last week, Iggy took an unprovoked shot at Bhabie after a mutual friend of theirs shared a post supporting the "Gucci Flip Flops" singer. Iggy shaded her rival, which earned her a scorching response. Bhabie came back at Iggy with a jab at the recently canceled tour the latter was scheduled to go on. Both ladies were present at the Fashion Nova party on Wednesday (November 14), and Iggy took to her Instagram story to take shots at Bhabie after an apparent altercation.

In the first story, Iggy wrote the caption "So the dr Phil girl is really upset about me apparently and thought I'd fight a child?! LOL Anyway! The fashion nova party is LIT." While in selfie mode, Iggy makes fun of Bhabie's hair before saying "What kind of Jerry Springer? What kind of 'whose baby is this' Dr. Phil ass shit. Oh my god. I'm a grown up, I cannot."

Bhabie also took to her story, and left a "Bye broke bitch, by hoe," caption on a black screen that is presumably aimed at Iggy.

MICHAEL AVENATTI Arrested for Felony Domestic Violence ... I'LL BE 'FULLY EXONERATED

MICHAEL AVENATTI Arrested for Felony Domestic Violence ... I'LL BE 'FULLY EXONERATED
11/15 -- Stormy Daniels has just released a statement on the incident, saying, "These are serious and obviously very troubling allegations, but right now that is all they are: allegations. We should all reserve judgement until the investigation -- an investigation Michael has said he welcomes -- is complete, and that's what I'm going to do."
She continues ... "But of course I do not condone violence against women and if these allegations prove true I will be seeking new representation."

5:50 PM PT -- Avenatti bailed out and held a brief news conference, saying, "I have never struck a woman. I will never strike a woman." He added he's looking forward to the investigation and is confident he'll be "fully exonerated."

4:50 PM PT -- Law enforcement sources tell TMZ, the LAPD has already obtained an emergency protective order, prohibiting Avenatti from going near the alleged victim. We're told they will serve him with the legal docs before he's released from custody. We're told he will be released on $50,000 bail.

4:10 PM PT -- We were initially told by our sources the alleged victim was Avenatti's estranged wife. We now know it was not. The incident involved a different woman. Michael Avenatti, who became famous for representing Stormy Daniels in her battle with President Trump, has been arrested for felony domestic violence ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

Our law enforcement sources say Avenatti was arrested Wednesday after a woman filed a felony DV report. We're told her face was "swollen and bruised" with "red marks" on both cheeks.

Our sources say the alleged incident occurred Tuesday night, but there was another confrontation Wednesday between the two at an exclusive apartment building in the Century City area of L.A.

We're told Wednesday afternoon the woman was on the sidewalk on her cellphone with sunglasses covering her eyes, sobbing and screaming on the phone, "I can't believe you did this to me.  I'm going to get a restraining order against you."

We're told security brought her inside the building, took her upstairs and Michael showed up 5 minutes later and ran into the building. He screamed repeatedly, "She hit me first." We're told he angrily added, "This is bulls***, this is f***ing bulls***."  We're told he tried getting into the elevator but security denied him access.

Cops showed up and escorted Avenatti into a corner of the apartment lobby and spoke with him for 5 to 10 minutes and then took him into custody.

A law enforcement source says on Tuesday, Avenatti "kicked her out of the apartment" and that's when the alleged domestic violence occurred. We're told she went back to the apartment on Wednesday to retrieve her belongings and called police to stand by in case things got heated.

We're told Avenatti is currently in custody.

Quavo Asks Everyone To Stop Comparing Him To Offset & Takeoff

Quavo Asks Everyone To Stop Comparing Him To Offset & Takeoff

Quavo of Migos watches the game between the Atlanta Hawks and the Detroit Pistons at State Farm Arena on November 9, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia

The Migos do not want to be pitted against each other.
The fourth quarter of 2018 has arguably been taken over by the Migos. While Culture III only arrives next year, each of the three has come through with their own solo efforts. We're still waiting for Offset's album to show up but that's expected to be released on December 14. Quavo has previously said that their intentions with the solo albums were not to stray away from the group. If anything, they're meant to grow even stronger as a collective. Quavo detailed how he wants to perform arena shows as the Migos with the opening acts being Takeoff, Offset, and himself. Hopefully, they reach that point. For now, the artist is worrying about how some are pitting the group members against each other.

Quavo took to Twitter to voice his concerns, telling fans to quit comparing him to the other Migos. "Stop Comparing Us Please!!!  PUT US AGAINST THEM!!!!  Thank you," he wrote. After the releases of Quavo Huncho and The Last Rocket, it's only natural for people to state which one they preferred. Quavo would like to halt that conversation though, asking instead to be critiqued next to artists outside of his group. It makes sense too as this could inevitably lead to the group splitting up, which would likely help none of them in the long run.

The Migos are the strongest when they're together and Quavo definitely has a point.

TYPES AND FORMS OF PICTURES IN MASS MEDIA

TYPES AND FORMS OF PICTURES IN MASS MEDIA
PICTURES AND THE MASS MEDIA
The mass media, particularly the print cannot be complete without photographs or
pictures. It is pictures that add colour, embellishment and illustrative outlook to the
written words presented in newspaper and magazine news stories, features and
articles. They, therefore, not only demonstrate, but also clarify, describe, illuminate,
expand, brighten and authenticate the claims of the presented write-ups of the story.
This lays credence to the popular Chinese adage that a picture tells a thousand stories.
It is, therefore, no wonder the popular and significant roles pictures play today in the
mass media. All these: television, cinema, social media, books, journals, newspapers
and magazines, especially the last two, massively use photographs as tools for
achieving their communicative goals. They contribute to the news. Indeed, one would
marvel sighting a newspaper or magazine without pictures. This takes the mind back
to when that was the case. In fact, some readers today would just go through the
pictures accompanying stories to get the gist and move on, hence journalism is today
not complete without photographs.
3. 2 FUNCTIONS OF PICTURES IN PHOTO-JOURNALISM

Pictures today arouse readers’ interest and attention a great deal because they give the
readers a sense of participation or at least witnessing it personally which makes it
easier to identify with people and situations and become emotionally involved. Also,
pictures make it easier to retrieve stored information from memory, this happens
because pictures are encoded in terms of both their graphics and written content. The
presence of an additional memory code for picture items would enhance their
probability of being recalled because if one was forgotten or simply unavailable for
retrieval, the other could be used instead. So also to say that pictures present more
details than words do and provide a better grasp of relationship. This clarification
allows readers to form accurate visual memories of unfamiliar people and event and to
remember events done in the past.
In Journalism today, picture serves some useful purposes in newspapers. Thus
pictures can be identified majorly as follows:
I Credibility: a photograph makes whatever is pictured seem more real and true.lt
lends credibility to the story as people are more inclined to what they see than what
they read.

Photography and how it relates to the Law

2 Visual appeals: pictures are visual magnets, drawing readers into a page or a story.
For this reason, pictures often serve as entry points. Part of a picture's visual appeal is
the variety it adds to a layout. The contrast between a picture and copy is exciting and
eye catching. This is why pictures are usually the dominant element on a page or
spread.

PHOTOGRAPHY AS A PROFESSIONAL

3 Vitality: a picture adds life-vitality-to a story in a way no illustration can match.
Even a mug shot do wonders as it makes readers feel as though the person in the story
is real. Sometimes a
Story has vitality, but it needs a picture to highlight that vitality. Pictures are
especially suited to bringing out the action on human interest in a story.
4 Aesthetics: aesthetics has to do with the beauty which is being portrayed in the
picture. Pictures add so much beauty to the story and also the newspaper as reader
may be attracted to the newspaper just because of the beauty of the picture.
1. Photographs add colour and illustration to stories.
2. Pictures present the essence and gist of stories.
3. They lay emphasis on salient aspects of stories.
4. They are used to dramatize the story of an event.
5. They authenticate the facts presented in stories.
6. They add variety and embellishment to stories.
7. They present the entertainment angle to a story.
8. The fascinating colours attract attention of the audience
9. They assist to fill what could have been empty pages.
10. They present facts to illiterate who cannot read the written words.
33
11. They demonstrate the claims of the story.
12. They create jobs for specialists in this aspect of journalism

Tory Lanez & A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie Shine Bright In "If It Ain't Right" Visuals

Lanez and Boogie keep the ladies close.

Tory Lanez dropped his Love Me Now? album last month, and his grind continues with a video treatment for "If It Ain't Right." The smooth single features A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, and the two artists surround themselves with gorgeous women and bright lights in their visual venture. Lanez takes directorial credit for the video, further displaying his broad range of talents.
The video opens with a red-tinged welcoming into Lanez's room, which looks like a play place for his fantasies. Lanez and Boogie perform their single in front of a retro movie theater marquee as rapid shots of neon backgrounds, sexy ladies, and naked Barbie dolls rush past.

DIDDY's strong BOND WITH KIM PORTER

DIDDYUNBREAKABLE BOND WITH KIM PORTER

EXCLUSIVEDiddy is destroyed over the death of his ex, Kim Porter ... because even though they broke up years ago they were still a very tight family.
Sources close to Diddy say he never stopped interacting with Kim, despite breaking up way back in 2007. We're told their connection went beyond the fact they were co-parenting 3 kids ... they genuinely had love and affection for each other.
They celebrated holidays as a family, vacationed together and just hung out ... and there was never an extended period where they were at odds with each other.
Perhaps the most telling example of their ongoing union ... they never had a formal custody agreement. They accommodated each other's schedules when it came to the kids -- and it always worked.
lyricsiq broke the story ... Porter was found dead at her Toluca Lake home Thursday, and the emergency dispatch revealed a call came in for a patient in cardiac arrest. A source told us Porter was recently sick with pneumonia.
She leaves behind their 20-year-old son Christian and twin, 11-year-old daughters Jessie James and D'Lila ... as well as 27-year-old Quincy who's dad is Al B. Sure!.
Porter was 47 years old.  lyricsiq

Snoop Dogg Shares Throwback Picture With Tupac & MC Hammer

Snoop Dogg Shares Throwback Picture With Tupac & MC Hammer
Snoop Dogg
For those who hold hip-hop history close to their heart, a throwback picture is always appreciated. We previously saw Irv Gotti harken back to a time where he rolled alongside  DMX and Jay-Z, triggering feelings of nostalgia in golden era aficionados. Though the aforementioned trifecta largely rose to prominence in the late nineties, another trifecta was dominating the scene in 1996. The legendary Snoop Dogg recently shared a photo of himself, MC Hammer, and the legendary Tupac Shakur, dressed to the nines at what looks like a high-end event.
Pac fans know that 1996 was a significant year for the rapper, who passed away that September. Yet prior to his murder, the rapper dropped off his classic All Eyez On Me album, which would ultimately be his last official project. The album featured fellow Death Row rapper Snoop Dogg, who appeared on tracks like "2 Of Amerikaz Most Wanted" and "All Bout U."
Respect to Snoop Dogg (and MC Hammer) for sharing this, and though it goes without saying, rest in peace Tupac Shakur.

The publication details how a call was made to Kim's Toluca Lake home today around noon (Thursday, November 15th) and the call came in as a patient in cardiac arrest. A source tells TMZ that Kim had been suffering from pneumonia for a few weeks, but it's too early to know if it had anything to do with her passing.

Kim is remembered by her four children Christian Casey Combs, Jessie James Combs and D'Lila Star Combs who she shares with her ex, Diddy, as well as her son Quincy who she had with Al B. Sure!

"Sadly, I can confirm the passing of Kim Porter. I ask that you give the families privacy at this time," Diddy's rep tells the publication. Diddy and Kim dated for more than a decade and their relationship had lots of ups and downs. They finally ended things in 2007 but co-parented collectively for the sake of their kids.

"I'd been in an on-again, off-again relationship with Mr. Combs for about 10 years, and it came to a point where it was time for me to move on with my life. I had invested a lot of time in that relationship, and it wasn't going where it should have been going. So it was time to [end it]," Kim previously stated of Diddy. "In a relationship, it's important that the people are on the same page at the same time. And we weren't on the same page.

Anderson .Paak Drops "Oxnard" Ft Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Q-Tip, & others

Anderson .Paak Drops "Oxnard" Ft Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Q-Tip, & others

Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals perform onstage during day 1 of FYF Fest 2017 on July 21, 2017 at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, California.

Paak has a new perspective on life.

Anderson .Paak took listeners on a visual journey to the beaches of Venice with his first project. Then, the raspy-voiced artist shifted the scene north to Malibu. It was that project that alerted the mainstream world to .Paak's solo strength, and gave the funky artist his first taste of the fame that would blossom from his talent. .Paak continues his northward journey with his latest album Oxnard. The town is an hour west of Los Angeles (on a good day), and is .Paak's hometown. The ode to his city has been crafted carefully, with the guidance of Dr. Dre steering .Paak towards his artist peak. At long last, Oxnard has arrived for consumption.

MÝA BALANCES ON PLANET 9: SELF-MASTERY, LOVE & FEMALE ENERGY

The album features J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Pusha-T, Q-Tip, BJ The Chicago Kid and more. .Paak reveals the struggles of dealing with his new found fame, but never drifts too far away from his wise and energetic musings. The Oxnard native blessed fans with the singles "Who R U?" and "Tints," but neither record is a good representation of the project. The disparity between those two singles works better as an example of what to expect from this eclectic piece of work. Stream Oxnard below.

Bazzi Falls From The Sky In “Dreams” Music Video:

Bazzi Falls From The Sky In “Dreams” Music Video: Mesmerizing Eyes Alert!
bazzi dreams music video
bazzi dreams video
I thought there was going to be more promotion for the “Beautiful” remix with Camila Cabello but ok… looks like Bazzi is ready to move on? Did the “Beautiful” remix perhaps didn’t have the impact he or his label wanted? I don’t know but what I do know is that Bazzi premiered earlier on Monday an official music video for “Dreams”, the intro track of his debut album “Cosmic”. “Dreams” is very cute and so is this music video - directed by Miggy. The video opens with handsome Bazzi falling from the sky onto a forest where he will be served some hot tea as a beautiful and mysterious woman walks off crossing a blue door. Bazzi will chase her and will suddenly find himself a) downsized and b) in the dollhouse of this girl. When the girl is about to grab him to play with her they both will teleport, returning to their normal sizes, to a random street where Bazzi will be the one now attempting to hold on to her but BOOM – he will abruptly be back to his non-stop falling from the sky scenario.
Can Bazzi be more dreamy? Those eyes!
PS: I really though Bazzi’s next single would be “3:15” but oh well. The next one then!

When your well run dry, you know you need me for it
When I pull up in the Buick, you know what I'm doin'
If the police get behind me, I'm fleein' and eludin'
Sleepin' on the palette turned me to a savage
I'm a project baby, now I stay in Calabasas
Like I still serve fiends, like I'm still jackin'
I be sippin' on lean, tryna keep balance
Hit that Z-Walk, Dickie's with my Reeboks
I don't say much, I just let the heat talk
Your jewelry water whip, diamonds like re-rock
My lil' baby ride the dick like a seesaw
When I stepped up on the scene, I was on a bean
When I jumped up out the Beam', I was in Celine
Baby girl you just a fling, that ain't what I mean
Money bustin' out my jeans like I do the scheme

When I stepped up on the scene, I was on a bean
When I jumped up out the Beam', I was in Celine
Baby girl you just a fling, that ain't what I mean
Money bustin' out my jeans like I do the scheme
[Refrain: Kodak Black]
Pull up in a demon, on God (On God)
Lookin' like I still do fraud (Fraud)
Flyin' private jet with the rod (Rod)
This that Z shit, this that Z shit (This that Z shit)
Pull up in a demon, on God (On God)
Lookin' like I still do fraud (Fraud)
Flyin' private jet with the rod (Rod)
This that Z shit, this that Z shit (This that Z shit)
Uh-huh, ha, oh-ah-oh
Uh-huh, ha, oh-ah-oh
Uh-huh, ha, oh-ah-oh
Uh-huh, ha, oh-ah-oh

What if I never run into you?
What if you never smiled at me?
What if I had noticed you too?
And you never showed up where I happened to be

What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?
On a quiet night, what are the odds?
What's a guy like me doing in a place like this?
I could have just walked by, who would have thought?

What are the chances that we'd end up dancing?
Like two in a million, like once in a life
I could have found you, put my arms around you
Like two in a million, like once in a life
What are the chances?

What if I hadn't asked for your name?
And time hadn't stopped when you said it to me? Oh
Of all of the plans that I could have made
Of all of the nights that I couldn't sleep, oh

What's a girl like you doing in a place like this?
In a crowded room, what are the odds?
What's a guy like me doing in a place like this?
Getting close to you, but here we are?

What are the chances that we'd end up dancing?
Like two in a million, like once in a life
That I could have found you, put my arms around you
Like two in a million, like once in a life
What are the chances?

Is it love? Is it fate?
Who am I? Who's to say?
Don't know exactly what it means (Ooh, oh, yeah)
Is it love? Is it fate?
Where it leads, who can say?
Maybe you and I were meant to be

What, what
What are the chances that we'd end up dancing?
Two in a million, once in a life
That I could have found you, put my arms around you (My arms around you)
Like two in a million (It's like two in a million), like once in a life, yeah (Woah)
What are the chances? (What are the chances?)
Two in a million, once in a life
What are the chances? (What are the chances?)
Two in a million, once in a life

What if I never run into you?
And what if you never smiled at me?

Reaching out with your arms extended (Yeah, yeah)
My love, is emergency
And I can sense the urgency (Ya-aah)
Come, let me, woah-oh-ooh

Siempre andamos positivos
Esa es la forma en que vivo, activo
Que se joda quien no esté en lo mismo
Yo disfruto mientras siga vivo
Si te excita, no te cuesta
Si conmigo estás vestida de Chanel (Oh, yeah)
Hasta los pies (Oh, yeah)
Si tú te pones pa'l problema
Yo me pongo como se tiene que ser
De una vez, bebé, bebé (Maluma, baby)

[Chorus: XXXTENTACION & Swae Lee]

Te amo mami, let me hold you
Wrap me arms right around you, girl, oh yeah (Oh-ooh)
'Cause I been wrapped up around you
To make sure no one could harm you
Dale, mami, let me have you (Have you), oh yeah

Ariana Grande Thank U Next lyrics

Ariana Grande Thank U Next lyrics

Thought I'd end up with Sean
But he wasn't a match
Wrote some songs about Ricky
Now I listen and laugh
Even almost got married
And for Pete, I'm so thankful
Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm
'Cause he was an angel

One taught me love
One taught me patience
And one taught me pain
Now, I'm so amazing
I've loved and I've lost
But that's not what I see
So, look what I got
Look what you taught me
And for that, I say

Thank you, next (Next)
Thank you, next (Next)
Thank you, next
I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex
Thank you, next (Next)
Thank you, next (Next)
Thank you, next (Next)
I'm so fuckin'—

Spend more time with my friends
I ain't worried 'bout nothin'
Plus, I met someone else
We havin' better discussions
I know they say I move on too fast
But this one gon' last
'Cause her name is Ari
And I'm so good with that (So good with that)

She taught me love (Love)
She taught me patience (Patience)
And she handles pain (Pain)
That shit's amazing (Yeah, she's amazing)
I've loved and I've lost (Yeah, yeah)
But that's not what I see (Yeah, yeah)
Just look what I've found (Yeah, yeah)
Ain't no need for searching, and for that, I say

Thank you, next (Thank you, next)
Thank you, next (Thank you, next)
Thank you, next (Thank you)
I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex
Thank you, next (Thank you, next)
Thank you, next (Said thank you, next)
Thank you, next (Next)
I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex

Thank you, next
Thank you, next
Thank you, next
I'm so fucking—

One day I'll walk down the aisle
Holding hands with my mama
I'll be thanking my dad
'Cause she grew from the drama
Only wanna do it once, real bad
Gon' make that shit last
God forbid something happens
Least this song is a smash (Song is a smash)

I've got so much love (Love)
Got so much patience (Patience)
I've learned from the pain (Pain)
I turned out amazing (Turned out amazing)
I've loved and I've lost (Yeah, yeah)
But that's not what I see (Yeah, yeah)
Just look what I've found (Yeah, yeah)
Ain't no need for searching
And for that, I'll say

Thank you, next (Thank you, next)
Thank you, next (Thank you, next)
Thank you, next
I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex
Thank you, next (Thank you, next)
Thank you, next (Said thank you, next)
Thank you, next (Next)
I'm so fuckin' grateful for my ex

Thank you, next

The Weeknd Receives A Stamp Of Approval From Bella Hadid's Mother

The Weeknd Receives A Stamp Of Approval From Bella Hadid's Mother

Bella Hadid, Yolanda Hadid, The Weeknd

Like many fans, Yolanda Hadid couldn't be happier that Bella and The Weeknd reunited.

Former model and television personality Yolanda Hadid has quite a bit to be proud about. All three of her children, Gigi, Bella, and Anwar Hadid are forging successful modeling careers with the two oldest children recently taking to the stage at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in New York this week.
While Gigi and Bella wowed crowds as they strutted down the runway, Yolanda and Bella's beau OVO artist The Weeknd cheered them on in the audience. The significance of the moment will not be lost on keen observers or fans of the couple as many will recall that after their 2016 break up, the famous exes shared an infamous moment at the show where Bella was making her debut as an angel while the musician performed.
The pair has since rekindled their romance —a decision that Yolanda has welcomed. Speaking to E!'s Zanna Roberts Rassi, Yolanda said, "I trust [my children's'] choices and I love who they love and obviously Bella and Abel had the split there for a while and I'm just so happy they're back together and I couldn't be happier about that."
Yolanda is certainly not alone her sentiments, as fans of both the model and "Call Out My Name" musician herald the loved-up pair.

Curren$y & Freddie Gibbs "Fetti" Review

The collaborative efforts of Curren$y,
Cover Freddie Gibbs, and The Alchemist make for a rap outing lined with healthy sparring and phenomenal beat selection
Despite announcing the project over two years ago, on October 31, Curren$y and Freddie Gibbs finally dropped their highly anticipated collaboration project, Fetti. Sharing a name with their Alchemist-produced Grand Theft Auto collaboration, Fetti extends the palpable camaraderie of the trifecta into a concise and cohesive album. With all but one song clocking in at under three minutes, the trio manages to avoid the pitfalls of tedium that frequently accompanies collaborative rap tapes.

Curren$y is beloved, not only for his consistency but also for his prolificness in rap. He’s already dropped five projects this year alone, in The Spring Collection, Parking Lot Music, Air Freshna, The Marina, and Fire In The Clouds. Such a feat which would be unprecedented for many artists, but in reality, it’s honestly reflective of a slower musical year by Andretti standards. The rhymes are still full of lowriding Impalas and high octane marijuana, but there’s an increased tenacity that seems to come from sharing the limelight with Gibbs.

Freddie Gibbs is following up the June release of his Teddy Pendergrass inspired fourth album, Freddie. Here, he switches back and forth between breakneck rhyming and employing melodic techniques from his previous work on cuts like “Now and Later Gators.” Both artists hold seats as “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper” archetypes, and it’s refreshing to hear the duo on wax once more. Alchemist provides a medley of moody soulful samples that comfortably fit into the sonic palette of both parties. As a result, both Curren$y and Gibbs sound like legitimate fans of each other, rather than two people plotting on a come up.

There are countless quotables about living the high life, paired with extravagant yet nonchalant flexing. Freddie, aka the self-proclaimed “King of shit talking,” makes a strong case for the crown, spitting absurdities about being like “Malcom X with the perm nigga” and how he’s already a “legend in this bitch and might do Coachella as a hologram.” Curren$y, on the other hand, tosses off boasts like, “They talk but never attack, I walk with God I'm relaxed/ I got a Rollie collection, you duckin' bill collectors/ You niggas always stressin'/ I'm in a suite in a Westin in a notebook sketchin,'” with the ease of a man reclined in a Laz-e-Boy.

They’re having a great time and I can feel it. Fetti sounds like celebration music at the end of a heist movie, provided everyone made it out at the end. Lyrics about flashy cars, exotic locales, and slinging illicit substances pervade the album; Curren$y plays the role of cautious navigator while Gangsta Gibbs presents himself as a hotheaded gunslinger, almost manic in his desire to secure the bag. Both men come with high levels of lyrical intensity, however there are moments where Freddie sounds hungrier than ever, rapping in a quicker cadence than usual. Although Curren$y maintains his more leisurely approach to rhyming, there’s definitely a notable increase in his lyrical dexterity.

It’s the little details, like the seamless continuity between the two artists’ verses, that make Fetti such a pleasant outing. On “New Thangs” for example, Curren$y steps out of a Caddy wearing yellow and white AirMax. Freddie continues the imagery with his own flair, wearing Off-White AirMax the color of crack, before ending his verse by twisting up in the ‘Lac. Fetti sounds like the work of a team accustomed to each other’s strengths, and thus, know how to avoid stepping on each other’s toes. “Now and Later Gators” finds Freddie alone crooning about pimping and candy-colored boots; it would have been perfectly at home on his last album. The following cut “No Window Tints” is a solo Curren$y ode to a new custom whip. The inclusion of their respective solo offerings adds an extra layer of variety while allowing the artists to stretch a little further creatively.

Perhaps taking a lesson from other less focused collaborative tapes, Fetti runs under 30 minutes, making the listener crave for more rather than sift through mutually monotonous music. The Alchemist has crafted a beautiful soundscape that brings the best out his collaborators, culminating in some of the most beautifully cinematic gangsta music I’ve heard in a minute. There’s no feeling of big industry collusion or machinations, but rather the vision of three men who legitimately enjoy each other’s work, and came together as a united front to get that fetti.

More about Mick Jenkins "Pieces Of A Man"

More about Mick Jenkins "Pieces Of A Man"

Mick Jenkins has crafted a compelling and thought-provoking body of work.
Roughly one week prior to the arrival of Pieces Of A Man, I spoke with Mick Jenkins about the importance of replay value. The cornerstone behind longevity. How immediacy can often prove fleeting in the grand scheme of things. Naturally, such a broad philosophical concept yielded no conclusive answer. What grants a project replay value? When the term is used within the realm of gaming, it generally speaks to a combination of overall length and post-game content. Yet music is different. Length can prove detrimental, riddling the voyage with unnecessary pit stops. The most special musical journeys are seldom overlong, and must prove continuously stimulating. Production can indeed play a role, but for those seeking true longevity, the importance lies deeper: within the written word.

Lyricism is likely the dominant foundational element in hip-hop music. Mick Jenkins understands this well. His sensibilities equal that of a poet, employing linguistic acrobatics over freeform, jazz-inspired production. There are bar rappers, occasionally dubbed “rappity-rap” by the more condescending types, but Jenkins transcends the archetype. Of course, the man has bars. How else can he snarl “nobody can come for me except Kendrick” with any semblance of authenticity? Yet Mick’s lyrical temperament derives power from wisdom, rather than brute force. His intellect is notably sharper than most, likewise for his vocabulary. Therein lies his greatest weapon. Like literati still studied in academic circles today, Mick’s words are designed to be unpacked over time.

“Motherfuckers like to take advantage, standing there naked you panic, when vantage points don't get expanded, ” raps Mick, on opening salvo “Stress Fracture.” “They offer you anecdotes based on the man that you were, more than the man that you plan to be.” Of course, such gems are delivered with prowess, as Mick has masterfully picked production suited to his commanding flow. Yet the words themselves are notably denser than the average stanza, and thus, require an added sense of commitment. To truly invest in Mick’s message is to willingly put on one’s “thinking cap.” That’s not to say one must be an intellectual to enjoy Jenkins’ music; the scope of his artistry is wide enough to appeal to a variety of hip-hop heads. Yet that touch of additional effort goes a long way in imbuing Pieces Of A Man with deeper themes and narratives, whether the author intended them or not.

In some ways, Mick feels like an old soul. Unconcerned with chasing modern trends, he remains confident in his own vision, curating his projects with instrumentals of his choosing. Black Milk, Kaytranada, Nissim, High Klassified, THEMPeople and more combine to build a lush sonic backdrop, deriving influences from jazz, minimalism, and soul. Mick takes to their respective contributions ably, sprinkling a variety of thematic dots, or pieces, for us to connect. Topics of race, gender, and consent are tackled with a wisdom gleaned from personal experience. This isn’t a coming of age story per se, but rather one of reflection told after the fact.

Spare your preconceived notions of pretension. The kiddie table may be long gone, but Mick’s clever mind contains no shortage of geek-friendly similes and metaphors for those in tune to pop culture, nostalgic and current. Lead single “Understand” alone features references to The Hunger Games, Harry Potter, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, and Duke Nukem. Somehow, he manages to juxtapose them alongside moments of poignant reflection, making for a well-rounded combination: “Perspective and points, went from selecting electives to collecting the coins, to rejecting investments to connecting with legends and stressing acceptance,” he spits. “To fuck it, I'll write with my left, I'm finessing this joint/ with my right to bring the light, like a key on a kite.”

As a greater body of work, Pieces Of A Man achieves success on a variety of merits. For one, the album is concise; though nearing an hour, the density never feels cumbersome, unfolding in an organic fashion. Lyricism remains a strong suit, and Mick’s daring willingness to forego the safety net of “out-barring” his competition adds a refreshing versatility. In truth, there is a tradeoff to be made. It’s understandable why Mick didn’t pad the album with “Bruce Banner” style cuts, but the decision does cost Pieces a handful of accessibility points. Like the jazz that fuels his spirit, Mick’s music evokes fierce loyalty from purists. Curious passersby types may stop and take a gander, only to be pulled away from the latest dance challenge.

Should you find yourself interested in digging a little deeper, rest assured that Pieces Of A Man will provide plenty of content to digest. A surface-level listen, while enjoyable, merely scratches the surface of what Jenkins has provided. It’s a testament to Mick’s authorial prowess, further proof that the pieces are once again moving toward a lyrically-driven renaissance. In the vanguard stands Mick Jenkins (EarthGang, J.I.D, & Denzel Curry are there too), confident in his ability to lead, even when the naysayers emerge to mumble their doubts.
